diversity and equality

"When the winds of change blow, some people build walls, others build windmills."

Diversity involves recognising that everyone is different, and promoting respect and recognition for the value of difference.

Organisations that fail to be aware of the advantage of a diverse workforce are denying themselves access to the widest pool of talent and not sharing in the benefits - such as increased motivation, lower turnover of staff and access to wider markets - which effective equality policies can bring.

Effective diversity training will help people to develop reflective thinking, empathy, understanding, raised awareness, sensitivity, an understanding of consequences and a desire to be fair.

Discrimination in employment is illegal. It is destructive for the individuals who are denied jobs and access to vocational training, and who suffer victimisation or harassment, because of prejudice.

Even if discrimination was unintentional or accidental, prosecution damages the organisation, the staff and reputation of the business.

Tackling people's attitudes and perspectives on equality and diversity makes a major impact in combating discrimination, harassment and bullying in the work place.

By raising awareness and examining behaviours, policies and beliefs on race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, religion or nationality and age, can have a powerful and long lasting effect on staff.
